This page explains what Krakle, the Mac app, and krakle.studio, this website, do with your information.
Your key presses
Krakle needs Input Monitoring so it knows when a key goes down. It uses which key you pressed and how fast you're typing to pick and shape a sound. It doesn't save what you type and doesn't send it anywhere.
The microphone
Krakle only records from the microphone when you choose Record my keyboard. The recording is turned into sounds and saved with your boards on your Mac.
Krakle also checks whether your microphone is in use, so it can go quiet during calls. It doesn't listen to the microphone to do this.
Your boards and sounds
Your boards, sounds and recordings are saved in Krakle's folder on your Mac. When you share a board, the .krakle file includes any recordings you added. Only the people you send it to get a copy.
Usage data
Krakle may collect anonymous usage data, such as which features are used and crash reports, to help improve the app. It never includes what you type, your recordings or your files. We don't sell any data.
This website
krakle.studio is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs such as IP addresses. Fonts load from Google Fonts. Keys you press on the page only play sounds in your browser.
Sound credits
Krakle's built-in keyboards are made from recordings that these people shared:
- Deep and Metallic: zrrion, on Freesound, CC0
- Soft: StavSounds and yottasounds, on Freesound, CC0
- Plasticky: unicaegames, on OpenGameArt, CC0
- Clicky: Capt.Jack, on Freesound, CC0
- Buckling Spring: buckling-spring.WAV by fastson, on Freesound, CC BY 3.0. We cut it into single key presses and evened out the volume.
